NYAKAGEZI GORILLA FAMILY

Location:Mgahinga gorilla national park

This family is composed of 9 members, 4 silverbacks, 2 adult females, 1 juvenile and 2 infants led by dominant silverback Mark assisted by mafia,ndugutse and retired bugingo the oldest silverback in this familybelieved to be more than 54 years. For bugingo to still be living in the same familys after he was deposed is very rare, usually once the dominant silverback is overthrown, he is banished and dies in isolation or seek refuge from other groups. Nyakagezi’s home range extends up to the national frontiers with Rwanda, no wonder the family at times used to pay a visit their relatives in volcanoes national park. The family is named after a place nyakagezi where there is a lot of sumptuous food attractive to the gorilla.
