HABINYANJA GORILLA FAMILY

Location:Buhoma sector

This family has 17 members led by silverback makara as the dominant and sole leader of the family. The family was habituated in 1997 and named habinyanja (H group) meaning a swampy area, a place where the family was first discovered. The family had a stubborn prodigal member, Malaya who left the family in August 2011 and lived lonely life but who often came back to cause chaos in the family and then go back to his solitary life. Eventually Malaya took over mubare gorilla family after the death of its dominant silverback kanyonyi.The family is located in Buhoma sector of bwindi impenetrable national park
