GORILLA NUMBERS RECORD A RISE

Today,Uganda’s tourism ministry has released the long await 2018 gorilla census for bwindi impenetrable national park.

It has been confirmed as of December 2018 census that bwindi impenetrable national park has 459 mountain gorillas. These live in 50 families and 13 solitary individuals

It was revealed that bwindi impenetrable national park recorded an increase from 36 families in 2011 to 50 families by December 2018 thereby leading the virunga massif with 41 families.

When you combine the total populations of bwindi impenetrable national park and mgahinga gorilla national park, it puts Uganda’s gorilla population to more than 50% of the world’s total population of mountain gorillas in nature, the other being populations exit in Rwanda and Congo DR

In the 2016 gorilla census, the virunga massif had a total population of 604 gorillas while bwindi recorded 450 in the same year and 400 in 2011. This number therefore presents a greater success story in the conservation of mountain gorillas. As by December 2018,the world’s total population of mountain gorillas in nature stands at 1063 up from 104 in 2016
