There are broadly two types of gorillas, the eastern low land gorillas which are wide spread in central and west Africa and the mountain gorillas which are the most endangered with about 1000 of them left in the whole world and our center of focus.
The mountain gorillas live in two geographical areas. The first geographical is the south western highlands in the jungles of bwindi impenetrable national park. This is home to about 50% of the total population. The rest of the population lives in the virunga massive covering mgahinga gorilla national park in Uganda, volcanoes national park in Rwanda and virunga gorilla national park in DR Congo
The three different countries have different gorilla permit prices based on their different marketing strategies.
Uganda for example, has the most affordable gorilla permit at 600$ per person with the aim attracting many tourists create jobs and generate enough review to help in conservation of all the natural resources
Rwanda on the hand aims at attracting high end tourists who are ready to spend big. As a result they have put up very luxury lodges and also raised their gorilla permit 1500$ more than double the price in Uganda
Congo because of insecurity and political conflicts that have rocked the country for a long time, there are very few people who are willing to risk their lives to go to Congo. As such there have the cheapest low gorilla permit at 400$. Hope this will help any intending to travel to Africa to see gorilla
