You will be welcomed by a representative of Embrace Africa gorilla vacation who will transfer you to your respective place of accommodation in Entebbe. Depending on the time of arrival you might spend the afternoon at UWEC, home to captive animals and over 170 species of birds. These include 7 species of weavers, such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver, Kingfishers, Sunbirds etc.
Dinner and o/n at the Bomas or Central Inn. Enjoy a delicious breakfast then continue to Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Here you will have good hours of birding, with over 150 species of birds! Look out for the a Bare faced-go away bird, Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederick Cuckoo, Great Reed Warbler, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive, Olive bellied, Red chested, Green Headed, Collard etc Sunbirds and many more. A picnic Lunch in the gardens, relax while birding and later in the afternoon return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Early transfer to Mabamba Swamp, 50 kms west of Kampala. Look out for many different birds on our way to the swamp, like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Winged Warbler and Weyns Weaver. This Swamp is one of the best places to spot the exceptional Shoebill Stork. But also many other species can be found here, like the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, African and Lesser Jacanas, Squaco Herons, the Globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow a migrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks etc. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life is by canoe and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats. Later in the afternoon drive back to the Hotel birding enroute for dinner and o/n stay.
